Teen Characters

So, you want to write a teen novel. Your mind is racing with ideas. Specifically, a homecoming football game. You know the one inspired from a movie, a real-life event, or your imagination. You can see it now, the quarterback on the football field. The band is playing music, and the cheerleaders are jumping and kicking. A few five-year-olds girls are trying to cheer with their parents nearby. Meanwhile, the high school principal is watching everything.

There are several characters in this scene, and we need to choose your protagonist. Choosing one of the five-year-olds will produce a picture book. Choosing the one of parents could result in a novel for adults or a memoir. Ah, the good old days. Choosing the principal might produce nonfiction for new principals.

Now, we are left with the teens in the scenario. If you choose the quarterback your story will flow from his perspective. Numerous movies come to mind. You could choose one of the band members. Only one movie comes to mind. You could choose a random student in the bleachers that is the star of his/her own life. Choose well dear writers, and I can’t wait to read about your Teen (YA) character.
